Soledad Unified School District Celebrates Groundbreaking of Staff Housing Development

Posted Date: 5/10/25 (6:32 PM)

On Friday, May 9, Soledad Unified School District proudly celebrated a historic milestone — the groundbreaking of our long-awaited Staff Housing Development. This project reflects a bold and innovative step toward supporting the dedicated educators and staff who serve our students every day. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our community through the passage of Measure N in 2020, and the hard work of many, we are now building 20 units of affordable housing for certificated and classified employees — right here in Soledad.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to:
  • Our current Board of Trustees, President Chris Bourke, Vice President Ivan Ibarra Mora, Clerk Rob Ocampo, Trustee Javi Galvan and Trustee Monica Pantoja leadership and perseverance
  • Former Superintendent Tim Vanoli along with former Trustees, Alfredo Flores, Jess Barreras,  Josie Perez-Aguilera, and Jodi Massa for their foresight and vision to pursue this project.
  • Our district staff, partners at Education Housing Partners, 19/6 Architects, Ausonio Construction, and Dale Scott & Company.
  • The City of Soledad and its Planning Commission for their collaboration.
  • Our union partners at STA and CSEA, and the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee.
  • Our elected leaders and representatives — including Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, Senator John Laird, Supervisor Chris Lopez, and Mayor Anna Velazquez — for standing with us in support of public education.
  • And most importantly, Our Community, whose support and trust made this dream a reality.
This project is about more than housing — it’s about opportunity, stability, and a stronger Soledad. We are also proud to share this moment with Soledad High School’s Future Educators of Soledad, who represent the next generation of local teachers — and perhaps, future residents of these homes.

Together, we are building a future where educators can live and thrive in the community they serve.
